RSS in plain English

RSS (really simple syndication) is a technology which allows you to keep track of web content that you are interested in using a feed reader like Bloglines or Google Reader. Instead of visiting your favourite sites and retrieving the information yourself, you can subscribe to the content and be alerted whenever content is updated. That way, the web comes to you, not the other way around.

This video does a really nice job of explaining what RSS is all about, and how it should make keeping up to date a whole lot easier...

Thanks for uploading this. But the point is we're not very familiar with the program you suggested. We don't want to install any softwares in our computers.

Hi Dora,

Thanks for the comment. I can understand that you might not want to download a different browser - when someone suggested this to me a few years ago, I didn't think it was a very good idea, but more because I am a creature of habit, than because of security reasons.

Firefox has a pretty good security track record especially compared to IE6.

I've noticed that the feeds from blogger follow the following format:

http://www.[blogname].blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default

You can enter that in a web-based feedreader like Google reader and then that would mean there is no need to download any software.

As another alternative, upgrade to IE7.
